An English Birthday Party for Class 2011D
The monthly group birthday party for Class 2011D was held successfully in September. The party of this month was somehow special as it was conducted in English. We were honored to have our beloved Business English teacher Professor Wang Xiaocun with us.
Firstly, our executive monitor Zhao Xin, who was also the host of the birthday party, introduced the birthday stars of October: Chao Zhong, Cheng Jinxi, Ding Jie, Li Xingguang, Lu Xing, Ma Yangqing, Shen Ke, Wang Bo, Yang Hui, Yang Yang, Zhou Tingdong, up to 11 guys. Secondly, they were offered the birthday gifts prepared by the class, which were the classic works of Stephen E. Lucas ,The Art of Public Speaking, recommended by Prof. Wang. Thirdly, the birthday boys and girls delivered a brief speech on their career, hobbies, their family and their feelings at that moment.
Prof. Wang also took plentiful photos to freeze the memorable moments at the same time. Lastly, Prof. Wang sent his greetings and remarks to us by introducing to us a FOOL model. He began with Jobs’ notable comment “Stay foolish”, then illustrated the four elements of the FOOL model—Focus, Obstacle, Opportunity, and Leverage, and finally hoped that we would realize our dreams, enlighten our lives and pay back to society during the time of growing complexity and uncertainty.
This birthday party was designed by our monitor Zeng Liping, Business English representative Yang Yang, and hosted by executive monitor Zhao Xin. The books were prepared by study secretary Zhang Mingming. The party revealed the class committee’s notion of serving the people with innovate ideas, increasing the bonding of classmates and making every one feel the warmth of the big family. Besides, the English party led to the improvement of our oral English and public speaking skills. Therefore, we have gained in multiple ways.
